RECOMMENDED PREREQUISITES: COR117 – Door, Frame, and Architectural Hardware Applications | COR140 – Using Codes and Standards
This 8-hour continuing education elective is packed with intermediate code exercises that will help you:
- Practice finding code answers based on real project scenarios
- Learn to navigate and select the appropriate applicable code citations
- Become more efficient at researching and finding the correct code compliant solutions
- Fine tune your understanding of Fire, Egress, and Accessibility codes and standards
- Understand and apply exceptions
To get the most out of this course, students should have already completed COR140 Using Codes and Standards or have equivalent knowledge and experience. We will look at a variety of occupancy types including a hospital, school, restaurant, office building, and hotel. You will be taught how to identify large red flag spaces and determine if they are Group A Assembly.
It is strongly recommended that students bring hard copies of the International Building Code IBC 2021 edition, The Standard for Fire Doors and Other Opening Protectives NFPA 80 2019 edition, and The Standard for Accessible and Usable Buildings 2017 edition since these are what the certification exams are based on. Optionally, if the student brings a laptop, the codes and standards can be used during class in pdf format, from a free or subscription based online provider, or hard copies of any edition of the IBC from 2012-2024.
